Are you a young person with big aspirations but limited financial resources? Scholarships provide a transformative opportunity to access higher education and unlock your full potential. We firmly believe that education should be a right, not a privilege, and through Stephen’s legacy we feel it is important to support ordinary young people who face adversity and are marginalised to achieve the extraordinary.

Are you a young person looking to enter the world of Architecture, Journalism, Law LLB or Law & Criminal Justice?

The Stephen Lawrence Professional Scholarship aims to support aspiring, talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds providing a tuition fee reduction and an annual cash bursary. The scholarship was established in 2016 in honour of murdered black teenager Stephen Lawrence. You can find out more about Stephen Lawrence and his legacy by visiting DMU’s Stephen Lawrence Research Centre.

There are three scholarships available. Each scholarship provides:

50% off the cost of tuition fees, and

£3,500 cash bursary each academic year.

Freshfields

Are you a young person looking to enter the world of Law?

Launched in 2013, the Freshfields scheme addresses the disproportionate under-representation of black and black mixed-race men from less socially mobile backgrounds in large commercial law firms. It is aimed at exceptionally talented first-year students at UK universities.

The scheme has no minimum grades requirement and employs non-traditional methods to test for potential. The insight day and assessment centre experiences are fully funded so there is no cost to applicants, and there is also an offering for candidates not awarded a scholarship.

University of Greenwich

The Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation have partnered with the University of Greenwich with the first of the new scholarships to be launched in 2024/25, providing a postgraduate fee waiver for Architecture students. Priority will be given to black students from low socioeconomic background (Index of Multiple Disadvantage quintiles 1 and 2, low household income).
