Guidelines for using our logo
We are happy for people to use our logo when they are fundraising for us, but we do ask you stay within our guidelines. This is because our logo is part of our reputation and the good will that comes with it, and any misuse could potentially damage support for us and impact the legacy of Stephen Lawrence.
- Our logo should only be used when you are fundraising for us, and not to support fundraising for other causes, organisations or commercial use.
- Do not modify or alter the logo. This means you should not, for example, change the scale, skew or rotate the logo or change or vary the colours.
- You should not use the logo in any way which is misleading or which misrepresents your relationship with the Foundation, for example by implying that the SLDF supports, is a client of or is affiliated to your organisation.
- You must not use our logo to support any activity or in any way that violates any law or regulations or in any way that violates the trademarks, copyright or intellectual property rights of others.
- It may be that we ask to see samples of any materials that use our logo, and you must make any changes to your use of the logo that we request.
- Thank you for following our guidelines, and good luck with your fundraising!
Good practice guidelines for fundraising
Please follow these simple guidelines:
Be clear and truthful
You need to ensure that any materials, like leaflets or a webpage, that you use to support your fundraising are not misleading, for example because you have left information out or misrepresented what will happen to the money you raise.
Honour your promises to the people who support you
Treat people fairly and with respect
We believe that fundraising should always be a positive experience, so always treat people fairly and with respect and take care never to pressurise anyone into giving.
Handle donations safely and securely
Think carefully about how you will handle funds, to ensure that they are protected and your donors can be confident that they will reach us as planned. You can make a direct donation to us here.
Thank you for following our guidelines and good luck with your fundraising.
Plan an event
Thinking about holding an event to raise funds? It can be hard work but incredibly rewarding, knowing your efforts will help improve the lives of disadvantaged young people and communities. An event is also a great way to raise funds whilst having fun in your community with friends, family and colleagues.
Top tips for planning an event
- Set a target for how much you are trying to raise, this will help you plan, and will motivate people to help you get there! A good balance is to aim to raise three times more than you spend.
- Set a budget. Work out what you will need to spend money on beforehand, so you can make sure you are raising more than it costs you.
- Check the calendar. People are less likely to be able to come if your event clashes with a major sporting event or a national day. You also need to give yourself enough time to make all the preparations and to publicise what you’re doing.
- Plan what you will need to do beforehand and what you will need to do on the day. This will help you work out what help you might need, identify any challenges early, and make sure it all runs smoothly.
- Get help. It’s often more fun, as well as less work, when friends and family get involved. You never know, you may find that they have hidden talents!
- Tell everyone what you’re doing and why. You might want to create some flyers or posters. Email friends and colleagues with information that they can send on to others. Social media is also a great way to advertise what you’re doing.
- Don’t forget to thank everyone. After the event, remember to send a big thank you to everyone who has helped, and let everyone know how much you raised.
