Aamilah Aswat made history at Kempton Park as the first Black British female jump jockey to ride in Britain.
Riding Guchen for trainers Kim Bailey and Mat Nicholls, she finished fifth out of ten in the handicap hurdle, marking a milestone moment not just for herself but for young people everywhere who rarely see representation in this sport.
At only 20 years old, Aamilah has already completed the inaugural Riding A Dream Academy scholarship programme, trained at the British Racing School, and competed in the Magnolia Cup at Goodwood. Her journey is a powerful reminder that with opportunity, belief, and support, young people from underrepresented backgrounds can reach the highest levels.
Her achievement shows the power of visibility. When young people see someone who looks like them breaking barriers, it expands their sense of what’s possible.
