At the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation, we exist to inspire a more equitable society.
Through our Classrooms, Careers, and Communities programmes, we open doors for young people, equip educators, and support families, turning Stephen’s legacy into action.
2020 to 2021 — Building Foundations
The beginning of our journey: establishing the movement, testing ideas, and building the partnerships that would lay the foundations for future growth.

- National media campaign delivered 27.9 million impressions across TV, digital, cinema, and outdoor, with an estimated media value of over £1.5M donated in kind.
- TikTok partnership launched: #LiveYourBestLife virtual concert with artists like The Compozers and Ray BLK → 709,000+ views and thousands of young people engaged.
- 9 community microgrants awarded to grassroots groups across the UK, activities ranged from arts workshops to youth-led social action.
- In Brixton, partnership with a grassroot organisation and adidas → donated footwear to 25 NHS nurses at King’s College Hospital as thanks for their service during the COVID pandemic.
- First “Why Apprenticeships?” webinar hosted → 92% of attendees felt more confident applying; 93% of participants aged 16–21.
- 8 Ambassador Schools engaged nationally, embedding Stephen’s story into assemblies and student-led activities.
2022 — Growing Reach
In 2022, Stephen Lawrence Day became a national moment marked in classrooms, communities, and careers across the country.

- 197 classes in 89 schools attended live assemblies hosted by CBBC presenter Ben Cajee, reaching nearly 5,000 pupils.
- 300+ downloads of free classroom resources (KS2–KS5) reaching a minimum of 7,500 pupils.
- In partnership with adidas, launched A Legacy of Change Evening with TikTok → career panels & livestreams.
- Ralph Lauren launched the Solidarity Pin campaign in support of SLD → with proceeds donated to the SLDF.
- London Eye and national landmarks lit orange in Stephen’s memory.
- Partnerships expanded with DMU, Ralph Lauren, the Prince’s Trust, and more.
2023 — 30th Anniversary & National Momentum
The 30th anniversary of Stephen’s murder was both a commemoration and a call to action, reaching more young people, partners, and communities than ever before.

- 117,000+ social accounts reached (+559% vs 2022).
- Extraordinary Ordinary media campaign → 82M TV views & 22M OOH impacts.
- 82 schools engaged with resources, reaching 23,000+ children.
- National memorial service at St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, attended by leaders, families, and communities from across the UK.
- SL30 Reading Challenge → 91 schools, 119 libraries, 250+ student submissions.
- Major partnerships delivered: WPP, Ralph Lauren, adidas, Grocers’ Hall, London School of Architecture.
Looking Ahead (2024–2028)
We are building on this momentum with a clear strategy:

- Launching the Stephen Lawrence Scholarship Fund.
- Expand scholarships and bursaries in architecture and the arts.
- Launching the SLDF Architecture Practice Network.
- Grow our Ambassador Schools network to reach even more classrooms.
- Deepen community partnerships across the UK and internationally.
- Amplify youth voice in campaigns, storytelling, and national debates.
Together, we will ensure Stephen’s legacy continues to inspire systemic change for generations to come.
